Why did I start this blog?

At the beginning of this year, after graduating college but before starting my first job in a new field, I decided to create a YouTube channel. I realized that a significant amount of my “life knowledge” was learned from watching YouTube videos, and the remainder was from personal experience. I also realized that I was constantly sharing my experiences with other people, and giving friends and family guidance on different topics.

So, I decided to start a YouTube channel. I would share the lessons I had learned, and the helpful tips I had been giving to friends and family, with the whole world. This would not be my first attempt at running a YouTube channel. I had tried before, with motorcycle-based content. It didn’t pan out so well. Not only did I approach the endeavor with the entirely wrong attitude and unsustainable goals, I severely underestimated the time required to successfully edit and publish quality video content.

Fast forward to the post-graduation moment when I decided to give YouTube another shot. I quickly faced increasing demands for my time from my new job. I wasn’t sure where to go next. I wanted to let things out, but I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to get things out of my head and onto the screen, but editing videos would consume every bit of spare time that I was on the verge of NOT having. What to do?

While trying to figure out what to do in regards to content creation, I was simultaneously taking my interest in gadgets in a new direction. Mechanical keyboards were filling up my Amazon cart after read through various reviews and I prepared to take the plunge into a whole new typing world. I had never owned a mechanical keyboard, but I had always been fascinated by the concept. I had tried a few mechanical keyboards that belonged to others and I found them beyond satisfying. Since my new job required a greater amount of time behind a keyboard, it was the perfect time to jump in and get one for myself.

My new keyboard was delivered and I found myself itching to use it. I was looking for recreational outlets that required a lot of typing. Chat rooms? Those don’t exist anymore. This is no longer the age of America Online. Instant Messenger? Everyone I know is on their phone. Instant messaging isn’t much of a thing in my circle now. Email? See previous point.

Then it hit me. I would need to have a script for my YouTube videos on the topic that I wanted to discuss. I was going to have to type up some kind of prompt or outline. Ugh, but then I still have to edit the videos. I’ll get around to it, I thought. But then I suddenly realized that I could get the content out into the world without having to record and edit videos. Why type the script to make the video, when I could just upload the script??

So that’s how this blog was born. I wanted an excuse to type a lot, and I didn’t want to spend the time editing videos during a time in my life when I was spending all my time at work. Maybe one of these days I’ll start making videos, but until then, this site is where I’ll be thinking out loud.
